10 Solutions for Your Biggest Career Stressors

10 Solutions for Your Biggest Career Stressors
Whether we love or hate our jobs, most of us will have to deal with some amount of stress during the work week.

While we often don't have control over the things causing the stress, your career development needn't suffer as we do have control over the ways we handle and react to stressors.

Below, we're sharing ten helpful tips to keep you calm, productive, and healthy at work.

1. Choose Healthy Snacks

When the 3 pm hunger pangs begin, what snacks do you reach for? Most office break rooms are full of less than healthy options for a mid day pick me up, and most of us are guilty of grabbing a cookie or a doughnut to curb afternoon hunger.

Instead, be sure to have healthier alternatives on hand for when hunger strikes. Bring pre-packaged real food, like vegetables with hummus, apple slices with peanut butter, or crackers with cheese.

These small servings make an excellent snack and will keep you from making a stop at the vending machine. Don't forget to pack a water bottle as well. Refilling your coffee cup multiple times can lead to becoming dehydrated and will cause you to be more hungry during the day.

2. Add Meditation to Your Lunch Hour

While working through your lunch hour might make you feel more productive, it usually does more harm than good. Without a break in the day, you're more likely to feel stressed out and overwhelmed.

Rather than staying at your desk, find a quiet space and take some time to meditate. Close your eyes and picture yourself in a quiet, warm, secluded location. Imagine the sights and sounds around you.

Feel your toes digging into the warm sand. Listen to seagulls flying overhead. Imagine the water gently crashing in front of you.

Repeat this affirmation: "Each wave washes away negativity and brings peace to my mind, body, and soul. I see only positivity, prosperity, and serenity in my future."

3. Create Your Affirmations

When you find yourself in a stressful situation, repeating a mantra or affirmation can bring you back to your centre and help you to stay calm and in control. Work with one of the mantras below, or use them for inspiration when creating your own personal affirmation.
  • This momentary setback will soon pass. I'll learn from it and continue to grow in my professional life.
  • I am capable and confident in my abilities. When I recognise my professional talents, others in my workplace will as well.
  • My extra effort will be rewarded with prosperity and new opportunities.

4. Know When It's Time to Leave

In competitive work environments, it's not unusual for employees to stay late. Sometimes, staying late is necessary to finish projects before a deadline. More often, it's because we all want to measure up to those around us and if others are staying late, we feel the need to stay as well.

Make leaving the office on time a priority. Finish what you can during the day, leave those tasks that can wait until tomorrow, and get home to rest and relax before heading back in the next morning.

Working overtime might be necessary for career development sometimes, but regularly giving up time spent on sleep, relaxation, or exercise can quickly affect your health.

5. Prioritise and Write it Down

Keep track of all of your projects, responsibilities, and goals to keep you on track in your career development. A list of overall goals for your position can help to keep you focused on why you're doing what you're doing.

Keeping a calendar of upcoming projects, along with a list of small tasks to bring those projects to completion, can help to reduce stress by taking everything in bite sized pieces. Making a daily to do list further breaks down large goals into small and easy to manage parts, eliminating the stress often caused by an overwhelmingly large task.

As you go through the day, cross things off as you finish them. You'll most likely feel a sense of completion and you can end your day knowing that you've accomplished so much.

6. Cross Off the Tough Tasks First

Prioritise your daily to do list by putting the most difficult tasks at the top of your list. Many of us tend to put off the things that cause us anxiety, when doing the opposite can make a world of difference.

By quickly addressing the most difficult or time consuming tasks first, you'll free up the rest of your day for the more interesting or just plain easy projects. The sense of accomplishment from becoming the opposite of a procrastinator will soon have you floating through the work day with ease.

7. Be Positive in Conversation

Gossip is a problem in many workplaces and it can quickly lead to tension and stress, not to mention those causing problems to be let go. Don't let yourself get caught up in workplace drama.

Instead, keep conversations positive to rise above the remarks and be an example to those around you. When gossip comes up, steer the conversation in another direction.

8. Be a Savvy Saver

While we'd all like to focus on the positives of career development, the looming potential of unexpected layoffs is the source of stress for many people in nearly every field. Give yourself some peace of mind by being prepared with a financial safety net.

An emergency fund is an excellent idea for anyone. Financial experts recommend putting aside six months worth of living expenses in a savings account. Ideally, that money would be left untouched, but you'll always know it's there if you need it.

With less financial stress, you'll be able to focus on doing your job to the best of your ability and moving ahead in your career.

9. Practice Deep Breathing

Deep breathing is a common technique for staying calm and collected in stressful situations. We can all benefit from deep breathing while sending emails, sitting in meetings or sharing a meal with a client.

The practice will not only help you relax but will also help to improve brain function, increase energy levels, and help to be more mindful of food choices throughout the day.

10. Visualise and Enjoy a Stress Free Work Day

Visualisation offers an escape from a stressful environment. Let your imagination take you to your happy place. Close your eyes, even for just a minute, and imagine the sights, sounds, and smells of your happy place.

Let the stress melt away while you visualise only the things that bring you joy. Open your eyes and enjoy the feeling of being centred and light.

Work life doesn't need to equal stress and frustration. Set your goals, engage in mindful exercises, and visualise your success. You'll lower your stress and find yourself moving forward each day.

How You Can Enhance Your Persuasion Power

How You Can Enhance Your Persuasion Power
In life we are often challenged by those around us. Sometimes we feel as though everyone else is running our lives, forcing us to do what they want us to do. If you are often challenged by those close to you, enhancing your persuasion power is the solution.

By mastering the art of persuasion, you will soon be able to sway others to your way of thinking. By following these tips and tricks, you will soon be on the road to a self-empowered, confident lifestyle.

How can you become more persuasive?

1. Be confident and courageous

In order to become more persuasive, you will first need to believe in yourself. When confronted with a challenging person, be it a relative or boss, you must show the utmost of confidence while delivering your pitch.

A person can tell a lot from ones body language. Be sure to make direct eye contact, and to stand up nice and tall. This will show the recipient that you mean business. It is also crucial to be firm while delivering your thoughts.

You must know exactly what you want, when you want it, and whom you want it from. Consistency is key for a quality, persuasive pitch. Do your research to increase confidence.

Work on your argument, before it becomes one. It is recommended to carefully choose three valid points, and then deliver them with boldness and ease. After delivery, choose to end the conversation by "closing the deal".

You may do so by stating what you would would like from the other person in a confident, yet friendly, manner. For example, opt to end your pitch with a statement such as "When can we meet next to sign the lease agreement?" rather than "Would you possibly want to meet again to sign a lease agreement?".

By using the first method, you are removing all passive language, thus putting the notion directly into their heads that they will meet with you again.

2. Be relatable

No one likes a cocky salesman. This is why you must find a harmonious balance between persuasion and friendliness. By being too forward and blunt, the recipient will automatically be turned-off, and chances are that will tune out of your pitch.

To avoid this from happening, be sure to show a strong level of initial respect. This will allow them to begin to respect you as well, and will further pull them in to your pitch. Once you have their attention, speak as though you have been in their situation before.

By speaking from a perspective of understanding, the recipient of the pitch will more likely find your opinions to be of value. After all, who better to answer their problems then someone who relates to it?

3. Flaunt your track record

Even the most successful pitches can still be thrown a curve ball. For example, what happens when the person your speaking with asks for proof or reasoning? Sometimes your confidence, charm, and humour may not be all you need for a successful persuasion.

You must be able to come to the discussion prepared. In order to do so, gather statistics and facts to back-up your argument. Show your history through past victories, offerings, character traits, experiences, awards, and achievements.

By doing so, you will become a greater asset to the person in which you are speaking to. More often then not, they will be desperate to follow your persuasions over others.

What are the benefits to enhancing your persuasion power?

There are many rewarding benefits to a more persuasive lifestyle. Being persuasive will help with your overall people skills. For example, you will win others over much quicker with your effective arguments and confidence.

These people skills will also assist you in your career. Others will begin to set you apart, noticing your strong confidence and great ideas. After all, the best leaders are the ones who can make bold decisions and persuade others to follow.

Not only will the power of persuasion assist you in your work, but will also allow for a happier home life as well. Your communication and relationships will improve with your spouse, parents, children, and other family members.

Instead of back and forth arguing, you will understand the importance of positive persuasion through confidence and firm pitch points.

With a happy home and work life, you will notice a increase in your quality of living. You will soon notice a higher rate of success and respect. Your credibility will be through the roof, and others will flock to you for your advice and consultation.

While persuasion is not something that you're born with, it is certainly something that you can learn. By practising the above tips, you will soon find the road to self empowerment and enhanced persuasion skills.

3 Habits of Successful People

3 Habits of Successful People
What makes people successful and why are some people more successful than others? These are good questions to ask if you want to be more successful yourself. So, what are the habits of successful people?

Learning from the masters so to speak is the best way to achieve your own goals in life as they can provide signposts to where you need to go as they've been there already and show what works and what doesn't.

So it's smart to observe successful people and it's more efficient to imitate their habits. Why reinvent the wheel? To assist you I've put together 3 habits of successful people that I have observed in the real world, I also like to call them The 3 C's :)

Habit #1: Successful people cultivate complete clarity

Successful people know that you need to be 100% clear about what you want, you require laser sharp focus. They know their goals can’t be woolly, as without clear unambiguous goals in your head you can never move in the right direction.

Without clarity you will get off to the wrong start which will delay your progress.
So find out what it is you really want. Often what we think we truly want isn’t actually what we want. Sometimes it might take some deep reflection and time to ascertain our true desires.

What is important is you decide what your true goals are and go for them full throttle. Successful people are decisive and make sure they have complete clarity before taking action. This is one of the most important habits of successful people.

Habit #2: Successful people cultivate courage

Successful people are courageous. Once they know what they want they have the bravery to go for it 100%. Successful people fearlessly throw themselves in head first into all that they do.

If they don’t think they have the skill, they take the time to learn it! All of us learnt to walk and talk when we were young, we didn’t know how to do it when we came into the world.

But after a bit of trial and error we made huge ground from nothing. You probably take it for granted now that you can walk, talk and express yourself to others. Originally you didn't have any idea how to do that! It’s the same learning any new skill: we learn by trying and experiencing.

Don't be afraid to make mistakes, you'll gain valuable insights from them. All it takes is a little courage to actually begin anything!

Habit #3: Successful people use their creativity

I really hate it when people tell me they are not creative. I think some people mistake the concept of creativity for just the field of great works of art, literature or music. These are magnificent creations requiring perseverance and skill no less.

However, all humans are naturally creative, and successful people tune into this naturally. We humans anticipate and improvise as we go a long, it's how we navigate the world. We do it all the time. Our potential is unlimited if we only fully believed it!

Successful people already know this and use creativity when they come up against obstacles along their way. They think: if that doesn't work, we'll try it a different way. Is someone or something blocking us? OK we'll come up with a new way of getting around that, find a solution or take a different negotiating position. You get the idea...

To boil it down, successful people will first have concrete, clear cut ideas, have the courage to put them into action and use their creativity to make them happen.

Why not learn these 3 habits of successful people before the next time you need to begin a new project or find a solution to a pressing problem in your life. Maybe this approach will be much more satisfying and you'll get positive results.

10 Ways to Improve Your Communication with Your Boss

Being able to effectively communicate with your boss (and having good communication skills in general) is imperative if you want to enjoy a successful career.

After all, they hold the keys to things like positive performance reviews and can greatly impact your ability to advance or get that promotion.

Yet, they aren’t just the gatekeeper for getting ahead; keeping your job could also require talking with your boss in a clear, concise manner that is truly heard.

While you probably already know the necessity of having good communication skills, actually being able to get through to your boss may be easier said than done.

Let's Get to Work on Your Communication Skills!

Here are 10 ways to improve your communication with your boss that truly work:

Tip #1: Be Prepared

If you’re not a natural communicator, then going in to speak with your boss unprepared is a poor strategy. You’ll likely be too wordy, have trouble getting to the point or lose your train of thought.
All of these common blunders make it difficult for your boss to pay attention.

They are almost certainly busy with a thousand different tasks to get done; the last thing they want is to feel like you’re wasting their time.

Try to think of your speech as if it’s just the highlights, where you only cover the most important points quickly. Not only will your boss be more likely to listen to a shorter speech, they’ll probably remember what you said much better as well.

Tip #2: Be Specific

Generalities are your enemy when trying to hammer home an idea, proposal, defence of your actions, vision for the future or whatever else you’re trying to effectively convey to your boss.

This is the time to get specific, narrowing everything you’re going to say down to a few well-considered points. Going hand-in-hand with the advice to hit just the highlights, this tip ensures that those highlights actually have something to do with your point.

Tip #3: Keep Your Emotions In Check

Blubbering like a child probably isn’t a good way to make your boss hear you, especially if they aren’t a touchy-feely type of person.

While sharing your emotions and struggles can actually bring you closer together and help them see things from your point of view. breaking down should be a very rare occurrence (if at all). Why?
Everyone has issues that they have to deal with, but most don’t burden their boss with these feelings.

Most of the time your emotional display will be unwelcome and uncomfortable, unless you and your boss already have a good relationship.

So, to get the best results, try to speak with your boss when you’re composed and in control.

Tip #4: Be Accountable

If that project you’ve been working on is under-performing, don’t make ten different excuses as to why it’s not your fault. Take ownership of your failings, look your boss in the eye and tell them how you plan to learn from this setback and adapt to overcome in the future.

This can go a long way towards instilling trust in your ability to get back on track, and will probably go over much better than trying to explain everything away.

Tip #5: Speak in Actionable Terms

Saying that “you’d love to be considered for the upcoming project” is good, and it does show initiative. Yet, to really take your communication to the next level, try using language that’s actionable and measurable instead.

For example, say “I’d love to go over 3 reasons why I’m the best candidate for the project with you on Friday.” How is this better?

You’ve given your boss measurable terms and a clear idea of the next step. They’ll know that you plan to speak with them on a specific day with a specific topic in mind. This is superior to a much more general statement, which has no clearly defined concept of what’s coming next.

People tend to fall into this way of speaking a great deal, and not just at work. A good example of the difference is found in a typical New Year’s resolution. If you say that you’d like to lose weight this year, that sounds good, but it includes no plan of action to back it up.

However, if your resolution is to visit the gym 3 times a week for 30 minutes for the next year, this has a clear and measurable outcome. Which of these resolutions do you think will be more effective?

Tip #6: Be an Active Listener

All too often people just tune out when someone else is speaking, even their boss. They are simply waiting for their turn to speak again, and this is a poor way to build rapport.

Force yourself to be in the moment, actively listening to what your boss has to say. Not only will this give you fodder to ask intelligent questions and keep the conversation moving smoothly forward, your boss will be able to pick up on your undivided attention.

No one likes being ignored, and actually listening to your boss will make them much more inclined to listen to you.

Tip #7: Convey the Right Message

Communication isn’t only performed with your words - your body language and posture also send a message. Don’t cross your arms and lean away from your boss, look down at the ground often or hunch your shoulders.

These can either convey an attitude of defiance, resistance or poor self-esteem and weak belief in what you are saying. Instead, it's important to sit up straight and look your boss in the eye, and even lean forward a bit as if you’re anticipating the exciting things they have to tell you.

The right body language is a big part of an engaging conversation, so don’t neglect this piece of the puzzle.

Tip #8: Be Perceptive

What does being perceptive mean? Your boss is human too, and they aren’t immune to having a bad day or a fight at home. Try to determine their mood before jumping into your pitch or whatever else you have to say.

If it’s important that your conversation goes well, don’t pick a day when your chances are less than stellar. Bide your time and wait until your boss is in a good mood before you bend their ear - chances are your patience will be rewarded.

Tip #9: Be Persistent

This isn’t advice to annoy your boss, asking them for an answer to your query every time that you see the whites of their eyes. Instead, don’t be like far too many employees, who might drum up the courage to speak with their boss once but then don’t try again or stick with it.

This type of behaviour is quite common when asking for a pay raise, for example. Or, an employee may only speak with their boss when he or she initiates the conversation.

Don’t make your boss track you down. Touch base with them again about your discussion a day or two later if the situation warrants a follow-up.

Tip #10: Be Consistent

Perhaps the best advice is that waiting to speak with your boss only when you need something isn’t a wise choice. Keep lines of communication open with them at all times, volunteering brief but regular updates about work-related projects.

You can also quickly inquire about their kids, favourite sports team, hobbies or whatever else you know they like talking about. Just keeping a regular back and forth going can do wonders for your work relationship.

It also lets your boss know that you don’t only speak to them when you need something - making it easier to talk to them when you do.

Don't Let Your Communication Skills Hold You Back

These 10 ways to improve your communication with your boss can have a profound impact on your success at work. Using this knowledge, you may find that your interactions have never been smoother, or your ability to persuade grows by an astonishing degree.

It’s hard to overstate the importance of effective communication skills, and lacking them can hold you back even if you’re good at your job. You may have been oblivious to these basics of good communication for years - which could be why work is always a struggle.

Fortunately, simply by reversing your habits when it comes to connecting with your boss, you could begin to enjoy a much easier road ahead.

10 Reasons Why You Aren't at Peace With Yourself

10 Reasons Why You Aren't at Peace With Yourself
Are you not at peace with yourself? If not, when did you last feel content?

Every time you feel unhappy, the world seems a dull and unappealing place. There may be various reasons why you might not feel at peace.

If that's the case, here are 10 recommendations that you can use to make improvements and be at peace:

1. Your focus is directed too much on your past mistakes

The past is notorious for stealing our joy from the present. We always worry too much about what could have been or how things could have been different.

We spend too much time reliving a mistake that we made and regretting our choices that in the end, we miss the joy in the present. Learn to accept that you cannot change the past, move on but take the lesson with you.

2. Fear of the unknown

Everyone goes through the fear of the unknown at some point in their lives. This is whereby you choose to stick to a relationship even if things are not working out, or you choose to stick to your job even if you are being mistreated or abused because you fear that if you move on you might never find another job or another spouse.

It is normal to fear what the future holds, but never let this hold you back. Happy is the man who travels the path less trodden.

3. You don’t take care of yourself

Sometimes life leads us to focus too much on taking care of others. For example, if your spouse or a close family member is suffering from a long-term illness, if you take care of children or elderly relatives or you just seem to never put yourself first.

As a result, we might get absorbed too much into taking care of others that we forget to take care of ourselves and be happy. In the end, all the exhaustion and neglect will start reflecting in our mood swings.

Learn to take care of yourself before you can care for others.

4. You try too hard to please everyone

You might be having a self-identity crisis where you are still trying to find yourself. In most cases, this leads to imitations and trying too hard to please everyone. In the end, you will come to the realisation that you can never please everyone and what you are doing is hurting those who are close to you (including yourself).

You can never please everyone. Different people have different preferences. Never be afraid to be you, and the right people will come your way and stay.

5. You are in your comfort zone

When was the last time you tried something new? When did you go to a new restaurant or try out a new recipe? When did you ever take a risk? Maybe the reason why you are not at peace with yourself is simply that your life is boring and you are used to following the same routine daily.

You are so predictable to the extent that everyone around you knows your next move. If you want to be happy get yourself out there and go to a party or take a vacation to a random destination or if you're single, throw caution to the wind and go on a date.

Dye your hair a crazy colour or better yet get a full makeover. It doesn't matter what it is just do whatever takes your fancy. Excitement always comes with the element of surprise. Write a bucket list and start trying out everything on it.

6. You aim for perfection so can't be happy

Nobody is perfect. And nobody will ever be. Aiming for perfection is setting up yourself for failure. Accept that all you can give is your best shot - and that's OK.

On the other hand, do not expect others to be perfect. Because if you keep searching for the perfect spouse, the perfect friend or the perfect employee, you will end up disappointed.

In whatever you do, give it your best shot and do not be so anxious that no matter the outcome, you will be happy that you did your best.

7. You take things too personally

When you are over-sensitive and take things too personally, you are piling up negative energy which in turn will leave you feeling like you are not at peace with yourself.

Learn to take things lightly. Never hold grudges and learn to forgive quickly (including yourself).

8. You eat too much junk

Various studies have proven that junk food contains too much sugar and carbohydrates. This combination always leads to a sugar crash, and the result is emotional deflation.

A good recommendation would be to eat more foods rich in nutrients and drinking plenty of water on a regular basis. This will boost your energy levels and in turn give you an emotional uplift. Eating junk food is not totally forbidden but should be done in moderation.

9. You don’t exercise regularly

Sitting around the house doing nothing can lead to a disruption of your blood circulation. This is the perfect recipe for a dull day and a restless you.

When you exercise, you boost your blood circulation, especially to your brain. Your body also releases endorphins and oxytocin (AKA The Hormone of Love).

These hormones are responsible for making you feel happy and refreshed. Feeling bored? How about hitting the gym for a while or going for a swim? (Thank me later :)).

10. You spend too much time indoors

There is always some relief that comes with breathing in fresh air and floating in the ambiance of a perfect outdoor breeze. Spending too much time indoors can be depressing because your world revolves around the same tiny space.

There is a whole world out there full of possibilities for you to enjoy. Go for an afternoon walk and enjoy nature or meet new people. You never know whom you might run into at the park.

You can give yourself permission to focus on you and your happiness. Ask yourself what makes you happy, then go out there and do it. Your happiness can only be achieved by you. It doesn’t matter where you are at the moment, what matters most is what you plan to do about it. Now go and be happy! :)

3 Best Meditations for Happiness and Prosperity

Happiness and prosperity are two fundamental requirements of a human being, and it is hard to have one without the other because, while many only consider prosperity as amassing everything money can bring, an individual can never actually experience real prosperity without being happy.

In your daily life, strive to achieve prosperity as you work towards attaining inner peace and finding happiness.

Here are the 3 best meditations to bring you happiness and prosperity, together becoming the driving force in your life.

Make sure you are in a quiet and comfortable spot and that you are alone as you practice these powerful meditations.

1. Relaxing on a Beach

  • Sit or lie down in comfortable position
  • Close your eyes
  • Listen to yourself breathing deeply in and out
  • With every breath, picture yourself landing slowly and safely on a beautiful beach, complete with exotic palm trees, white sand and a clear ocean
  • There are no waves on the ocean and the wind feels nice and warm against your face, try reaching out for it
  • Visualise taking off your shoes and feeling the warm, white sand rub against your feet
  • Sit under the shadow of a large palm tree, look over the ocean, feel the rhythm in the wind
At this moment, repeat to yourself how thankful you are for the love and joy that surrounds you. Your subconscious has no real way of differentiating whether what you are visualising is real or imaginary so it will have a profound effect on your thoughts and feelings.

Practice this meditation for 30 minutes everyday for three months and your life will change for the better.

2. The Jungle Trail

  • Start this meditation technique exactly as the beach. However, instead of gently flying in and landing on an exotic beach, you find yourself in a beautiful jungle.
  • Everywhere around you are gorgeous flowers and trees with complex colours. Feel them deliberately and slowly as you walk among them
  • Listen to the soft wild noises in the jungle. Hear the monkeys, parrots and other birds chirping. You are alone in this marvellous jungle, and you feel great!
  • With each step, repeat to yourself that everything you have ever wanted is inside you. With every step, believe in these words and enshrine them in your heart
Imagine that this beautiful jungle is the happiness that is already within you. With every step, you discover deeper, greater joy, and the confidence that you can accomplish anything you set out to do.

3. The Box

  • Start this technique as the previous two but this time you are in a large empty room with only a box in the middle
  • Visualise yourself walking towards the box, open it and find it empty
  • Slowly start placing items into the box that are of no use to you
The items you place inside represent everything that is hindering you from becoming who you can truly be. Everything from fear of failure, worries about the future, rejection, anger and every negative aspect in your life.
  • As you place each item in the box, feel yourself getting lighter
  • Continue doing this until you have filled the box entirely and you have no worries left
As you open your eyes, affirm to yourself that you have released the negativity that has been weighing you down. You now live a truly happy and prosperous life as that is how it is to be and you accept it as truth.

The Power Is Within You

Probably the greatest power you have as a human being is the ability to choose your thoughts and use your imagination. To find prosperity and happiness you must truly believe you can attain them.

If you do not yet believe, the only way to learn is through action, so practice these meditations everyday and find yourself moving further towards these goals.

Are You Always Waking Up on The Wrong Side of Bed?

Are You Always Waking Up on The Wrong Side of Bed?
Call it waking up on the wrong side of the bed. Call it not being a morning person. Call it Monday. You might think there's nothing you can do about waking up in a bad mood, but a pre-sleep ritual can make all the difference.

Keep reading to learn more about creating your own, unique ritual using relaxation and affirmations before sleep.

The Importance of a Nighttime Routine

There's nothing worse than the feeling of having had a bad night's sleep. Not only will wake up in a bad mood, but a restless night can lead to problems all day long.

You'll most likely become tired throughout the day which can affect concentration and productivity. A lack of sleep can also cause headaches and a general feeling of being unwell.

Creating a healthy and happy nighttime ritual can help you relax before bed. That means a better chance of getting a good night's sleep and waking up with less stress.

How to Create Your Routine

An effective routine for better sleep and feeling great in the morning starts with creating and sticking to a schedule.

Give yourself a bed time and be dedicated to getting to bed at that time every night.
When deciding what time you'll go to bed each night, factor in the recommended eight hours of sleep, along with some time to wind down before going to sleep.

That winding down process may look different for everyone. It's important to create a routine that works for you, by focusing on the activities that are meaningful and relaxing to you.

Ideas for Nighttime Rituals

While everyone should create a routine that is personal to them, there are some relaxing rituals that help many people de-stress at the end of a long and hectic day. Consider adding one or several of these activities into your routine:
  • Playing quiet and calming music.
  • Taking a bath with essential oils, like lavender, which promote relaxation.
  • Enjoying a hot shower and visualising the water washing away any stress from the day.
  • Ending time in front of screen, including the television and computer, an hour before bed time.
  • Ending meals and snacking about two hours before bed.
  • Meditation, journaling, or reciting positive affirmations.

Incorporating Affirmations Before Sleep

Affirmations are simple sentences that can be repeated to promote positive suggestions to your mind and body. Many of us use positive affirmations throughout the day, as a way to embrace positivity and release negative thoughts and feelings.

Affirmations before sleep can help bring closure to the day, focus on the good things that the universe has provided, and invoke a sense of calmness and peace before going to sleep.

Try the following affirmations, or use them as inspiration to create your own:
  • Today, I have done my best and I will continue to be my best self tomorrow.
  • I am grateful for the experiences I've been given and open to the opportunities to come.
  • I am open and willing to the goodness and abundance that the universe has in store for me.

How to Overcome Low Self Esteem in 5 Steps

How to Overcome Low Self Esteem in 5 Steps
Having a healthy self esteem is crucial for your own well being and for being able to thrive in life.
I'm sure at some point in our lives most of us have known what it's like to experience feelings of self-doubt or self-loathing, some people seem to overcome it naturally, but others require a little more help.

Why Having Low Self Esteem Can Really Hamper You

  • It can put you at a disadvantage in life because if you don't value yourself, it's hard to truly value anything else.
  • You might lack assertiveness and this will definitely hold you back.
  • Your body language can come across negatively e.g. you might appear lacking in confidence or submissive, or alternatively, aloof or disinterested.
  • You may avoid social situations.
  • You may not take jobs that you are clearly capable and qualified to do which will impact your career progression.
  • You might lack self respect and this will feed into negative behavioural patterns such as drinking heavily or other forms of destructive behaviour.
Having low self esteem can impact you in a number of ways so, if this is this case - it's time that you come first now! Even if up until now that hasn't come naturally.

So I've put together 5 steps to help you overcome low self esteem, together with a related quote which deals with the same theme.

I hope you find them helpful - please let me know if they helped you see yourself in a better light because trust me, however bad you feel about yourself, it's down to your perception  - and this is what needs to be improved!

5 Steps To Help You Overcome Low Self Esteem

1. Make a list of your strengths or positive sides.

"An individual's self-concept is the core of his personality. It affects every aspect of human behavior: the ability to learn, the capacity to grow and change. A strong, positive self-image is the best possible preparation for success in life."
- Dr Joyce Brothers
I understand that if you're suffering from low self esteem this might seem difficult but just give it a shot, even if it's just to make a start.

You can ask someone who's close to you to tell you, if you're feeling you can't do it or are finding it hard to come up with positives.

You'll be surprised what positives others see in you that you don't realise! Write them down and keep them close to you so you can refer back to them whenever you need.

2. Get out of your comfort zone.

"Change can either challenge or threaten us. Your beliefs pave your way to success or block you."
- Marsha Sinetar
Again this might seem impossible to do if you have low self esteem but try to forget about that - take small steps. Join a club, take up a new hobby or try a new sport - it will expand your social circle at the very least.

Or try something different to your normal routine, perhaps visit a museum or local tourist attraction you've never been to. It will give you new insights and raise your spirits. It will also give you some time that is just for you.

3. Having good self-esteem and a strong self-image originates from within

“You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection”
– Buddha
Your self esteem can't fully be influenced by what goes on around you so ask if there are things about the way you think (and therefore behave) that are causing these negative feelings.

Can you be needy at times? Do you need to get reassurance from others before you make choices in your life? Do you relentlessly worry what others think of you?

Have a quiet moment of reflection and examine your thoughts and feelings and see if these are the kinds of things that are affecting your self esteem.

4. Forget blaming everyone else for how you feel

"A mind like a home, is furnished by its owner, so if one's life is cold and bare he can blame none but himself"
- Louis L'Amour
Blaming people is the best way to shift power onto other individuals, it's such a powerless situation you put yourself in.

Stop blaming your parents, siblings, teachers, bosses...whoever!

Take control of your own destiny and live your life - the improvement to your self image and self esteem will take off into heights you never thought possible.

5. Be yourself!

"Beauty is a radiance that originates from within and comes from inner security and strong character."
- Jane Seymour
Perhaps it's a cliche but who else can you be? Accept who you are, celebrate that and live it with enthusiasm! You cannot act out other people's scripts, however hard you try.

Learning to be content with yourself and who you really are as a person will give you a clearer sense of how you will carve out your own path in life and will improve your self esteem. You are a beautiful and unique human being!

Is it Really Possible to Forgive and Forget?

Is it Really Possible to Forgive and Forget?
Forgiveness may be the last thing on your mind after someone has wronged you. It is so much easier to wallow in hate, anger and nurture thoughts of revenge than to dust yourself up, let go and learn to forgive. Especially if the offender is not asking for forgiveness in the first place.

It might even feel good or contribute to your identity being the one who has been wronged, forming a major part of who you are and telling everybody all about it. Makes you feel satisfyingly self-righteous doesn't it!

However, refusal to forgive and harbouring bitter resentment will only do more harm than good, especially in the long term. I've borne grudges and refused to forgive in the past myself, but it came at considerable personal cost and caused me unnecessary agony.

Fortunately I have learnt that forgiveness is crucial to well-being and happiness. It helps you reach a level of understanding with every person who has done you wrong and, ironically, yourself.

What is Forgiveness?

Forgiveness is the conscious act of recognising that a wrongful act was done against you, acknowledging the pain it has brought, and letting go of the anger and resentment that the act has produced. Forgiveness is a conscious, voluntary act that you commit to do so that you can resume living a life of peace and happiness, free from negativity.

Forgiveness benefits both the offender and the receiver. It releases the wrongdoer from any fear of retaliation from the offended person but it actually helps the latter more.

Why? Because forgiveness allows a person to replace hatred with peace, understanding and happiness. States of being that are difficult to achieve when you are burdened by negativity and feelings of ill-will towards another person.

Positive Intentions and the Light Switch Method

The first step in forgiveness is to focus on the intention, which is what you wish for the person who hurt you.

It must be a positive aspiration, such as a hope that he or she will learn from the experience or that he or she will find peace and solace.

The next step is guarding your heart against anger and resentment. It is common to feel anger towards the person, even if you have made the conscious decision to forgive.

Protect your heart against anger using the light switch method. This is the process of visualising turning a light switch on when you start to feel angry and resentful to remind yourself to focus on the positive attributes of the person or what he or she has taught you through this experience.

Importance of Gratitude

Gratitude plays an important role in learning to forgive. Start by being grateful about the lessons learned from the experience and positive changes that the person has brought to your life, whether or not they are related to the offending circumstance.

You can also be grateful for the opportunity and ability to forgive, and the freedom from the hatred and resentment that could otherwise poison your life and your relationships.

Forgiveness is not a single-step process that instantly results in a changed mindset about a particular person or an offending circumstance, but ironically, being grateful for the experience and the lesson it teaches you is remarkably liberating.

What Forgiveness Is Not

Forgiveness is not synonymous with resuming the same relationship that you had with the offending person. If a spouse cheats on their partner, forgiveness does not automatically mean reconciliation.

Wrong and hurtful acts have consequences, and among these are altered relationships and people who are wiser about who to trust. This means even if you have forgiven someone, you still have a choice whether or not to let him or her back in your life.

Forgiveness is not easy to do, but in order to give yourself peace and happiness, you must learn to forgive. It is the greatest gift you can give yourself.

By making this conscious decision, practising gratitude and acknowledging that you can choose peace and graciousness instead of resentment and revenge, you not only free the offending person, you free yourself.

Using Your 20 Daily Affirmations

Now, as soon as you finish reading these, your first job is to copy and paste these 20 affirmations and print them out. I say this because you're going to need a printed copy to make the most of them.

Simply reading these affirmations one time won't do anything for you. You have to treat them just as you would treat 20 weight training exercises.

In other words, it's consistent repetition that will make these effective in helping you to renew your mind and develop the mindset which will lead to actions that bring wealth, love and self-confidence.

Now, the best approach is to record these in your own voice and listen to them every morning and every evening. In addition to this, practice saying them in front of the mirror at least once a day.

This deliberate repetition will create a lasting impression on your thought process and help your daily affirmations become a part of your automatic subconscious programming.

Now, this might seem like a lot of work, but it's important to remember that positive affirmations have the power to alter your self-talk and beliefs in such a way that you become naturally programmed for achievement.

Drop The Baggage

It's also important to remember that your mind is consistently being bombarded by negative information from others and from the media.

Consistent positive daily affirmations are the perfect way to feed your mind with positive and empowering thoughts and to guard it from negative ones.

TIP: You can also use these 20 affirmations to build one "super affirmation" that you can say every day.
